Mira had her tonsils removed today
After many months of snoring and a diagnosis of mild sleep apnea, the day finally came to have Mira's tonsils removed.

The day started very early since we had to be checked into the hospital by 7:15am for the 8:45am procedure. Amy and I were a nervous wreck because this was Mira's first surgery and all of our kids have had varying reactions to anesthesia including lots (and lots) of vomiting.

The surgery itself took about 30 minutes; however, the recovery took a couple of hours. Mira became very agitated when she woke up, so the doctor gave her something to allow her to sleep a bit longer. Even with the extra rest, she was still very angry and confused when she woke up. It took about an hour for the additional medicine to wear off.

Once she completely woke up, all she wanted to do was eat slushees. She had 4 or 5 before we left the hospital.

We got home around 2:30pm and she has been resting ever since. We're hoping we can keep her pain under control overnight. She usually will not cooperate when you try to give her medicine in the middle of the night. It will be a very long and painful night for everyone if that happens.

I posted photos to Flickr and Brightkite throughout the day. See those here and here.

Thanks to everyone who wished us well on Twitter. We really appreciate it.
