Happy 8th Birthday, Miles
Today is Miles' birthday. He was so excited that he woke us up at 6am so that he could open his presents.

Miles opens his LEGO set

We got him a LEGO table, a huge LEGO set, a PC game and a domain name. Because he was born in the year 2000, he wanted bigmiles2000.com for his personal URL.

This evening, we took the kids to dinner and then to Magic Mountain for some go-karts and bumper boats. As soon as we got our tickets, though, it started pouring the rain and they shut down all of the rides. Miles was heartbroken. Fortunately, the cashier decided to give Miles 100 free tokens for the arcade since he was so upset (We also got a raincheck so we could come back another day).

He ended up having a great time playing games and then cashing in all of the tickets he earned for prizes (including a gigantic pair of sunglasses).

Overall, I think he had a pretty good birthday.

Notable uploads from Sanjaya-ize.com
Several of us at the office have been keeping a close eye on how many people are checking out our new Sanjaya-ize Yourself widget that we launched to help promote our new Nationwide TV commercial.

This one is, so far, my favorite:
sanjaya_vader
Darth Vader

Other good ones include:
Lil Jon (almost a tie with Vader for awesomeness)
Optimus Prime
Spiderman
The Incredible Hulk
Nick Nolte

If you've Sanjaya-ized yourself, post a link in the comments.

Sanjaya-ize Yourself goes live
sanjiconMy first social media-related project at Nationwide went live this week. As you may know, Sanjaya Malakar from American Idol is featured in the latest Nationwide TV commercial (you can also see behind-the-scenes making of footage here). I was part of the team responsible for getting the word out about the ad.

In addition to having a press event and doing lots of blogger outreach, we also created a Sanjaya-ize Yourself widget that allows you to try on Sanjaya's unique style. You upload your photo, then choose your hairstyle, clothes and accessories. Depending on which outfit you choose, you will hear one of 3 song clips from the TV commercial followed by Sanjaya singing the "Nationwide is On Your Side" jingle.

Of course, at the end, you can share your Sanjaya-ized self with your friends via e-mail or by posting a link to Facebook, MySpace, digg, del.icio.us and StumbleUpon.

Check it out for yourself
, then let me know what you think.

Make sure you check out the new TV commercial as well.

Happy 11th Birthday, Mahlon!
It was 11 years ago today that we welcomed Mahlon Maximillian Morton into the world. Hard to believe he is 11 already.

We had a party with his Louisville friends a couple of weeks ago before the move to Columbus. Tonight, we will celebrate here with some brownies (he prefers those to cake) and some Go-Karts and Laser Tag.

Happy Birthday, Mahlon!

Fantasy Football '08 has begun
It's that time of year again. The time when you watch teams that you don't even care about just to find out how many yards your backup tight end got. It's also the time when you trash talk your friends and colleagues about their lousy coaching decisions every time you talk to them.

Our league, which enters its 9th season, welcomes a couple of newcomers this year: Todd Earwood, who pays tribute to my FFL legacy with his "Earwood71" team name, and Brendan Jackson, coach of RTC. It's great to have them in the league... since they have no chance of winning more than 2 or 3 games this season... and they are in my division, so I get to play them each twice.

We also have the return of Eric Brinley, coach of the Hillbilly Hairybacks, who missed last season due to vacation. He was out of the office when the invite went out and the league filled up before he got back.

We had our automated draft this past Saturday and I am pretty happy with my team. It's not great, but it isn't as bad as last year's post-draft lineup. My starters are:

Derek Anderson (QB)
Rudi Johnson (RB)
Willis McGahee (RB)
Anquan Boldin (WR)
Kevin Curtis (WR)
Torry Holt (WR)
Heath Miller (TE)
Adam Vinatieri (K)
Bears (D)

As always, I will post weekly updates on my team's progress... unless I lose a lot.
Still getting settled in Columbus
I just realized that it had been more than two weeks since my last post. Things have been very hectic with starting a new job, moving into the new house and trying to get the old house sold.

We spent this past weekend back in Louisville touching up paint, cleaning carpets and getting the last few odds and ends out of the old house.

Now, our focus is on getting everything unpacked in Columbus. We've made some progress; however, there is still a lot to do.

I'll post some photos of the new house once we get everything finished.
